After watching a demo by Tim Nicely (AC8VQ) at the September SOARA meeting, where he built a portable NVIS antenna to use with his Yaesu 817, I had to have both.
I went to the farm and built a permanent NVIS antenna following the suggestions from DXEngineering at http://static.dxengineering.com/pdf/WP-NVIS-Rev2.pdf. Used a Jetstream 1:1 balun at the top of the mast and used 12 gauge stranded wire for the radials. used the lengths 25′ and 38′ for the radials.
With the tuner it tunes easily to 40m and 20m and is a bit high SWR on 80m. Need to adjust a but, but it is wonderful for the QRPing i am doing.
